The Rolling Stones Unleash Crossfire Hurricane

As part of the ongoing celebration marking the Rolling Stones 50th anniversary, the stadium rockers will release Crossfire Hurricane next week in the USA which documents the key periods of the Rolling Stones’ career and their incredible journey.

As quoted from the Rolling Stones press release, “Directed by Brett Morgen, Crossfire Hurricane provides a visually stunning and an amazing  perspective on the Stones’ unparalleled journey from blues-obsessed teenagers in the early 60’s to rock royalty. It’s all here in panoramic candor, from the Marquee Club to Hyde Park, from Altamont to Exile, from club gigs to stadium extravaganzas.

With never-before-seen footage and fresh insights from the band themselves, the film will delight longtime devotees, as well as a new generation of fans, with its uniquely immersive style and tone. Crossfire Hurricane places the viewer right on the frontline of the band’s most legendary escapades.

As befits the first rock band to reach the 50-year milestone with their global stature now greater than ever, the film combines extensive historical footage, much of it widely unseen, with contemporary commentaries by Mick JaggerKeith RichardsCharlie WattsRonnie Wood and former Stones Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor. Period interviews, extensive live performance material and news archives give the production a truly kinetic aura and no-holds-barred approach.

Bonus features on the DVD and Blu-Ray include previously unreleased concert footage –  “Live in Germany ‘65”, NME Poll Winners concert footage from 1964 and 1965, a new interview with director Brett Morgen, “The Sound and Music of Crossfire Hurricane”, footage from The Arthur Haynes Show (1964), and the theatrical trailer.

Crossfire Hurricane received its worldwide premiere at the London Film Festival in October, where Mick JaggerKeith RichardsCharlie Watts and Ronnie Wood all hit the red carpet.”

Crossfire Hurricane is now available to order in the USA digitally on iTunes, Blu-ray and DVD.

The Rolling Stones are currently in the midst of their 50 & Counting North American Tour which hits Anaheim, CA on May 15th. So far stops around the country have included guests like No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry and Tom Waits along with the live debut of Emotional Rescue. There are scattered seats left for some of these shows. The Rolling Stones Ready to Kick Off 50 & Counting Tour; Depeche Mode Announce Surprise FREE Show at Troubadour

It’s a great time for fans of iconic rock bands like the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and Depeche Mode all of whom are set to launch tours in the next couple weeks.

The Rolling Stones have set up shop in Los Angeles where they began rehearsals for their “50 & Counting” North American Tour last week. The tour is scheduled to kick-off May 2nd* at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles (*date tentative due NHL playoff scheduling).

Speculation of a “surprise” nightclub show in the Los Angeles area have Rolling Stones fans running rabid at the mouth as they try to plot the iconic bands next moves. The Rolling Stones have traditionally done a “surprise warm-up” show at a large nightclub or small theater before they kick off a tour. Excitement is high as the Stones have rarely kicked off a North American Tour on the West Coast.

The Rolling Stones 2013 Tour Dates can be found here along with links to purchase tickets. Don’t miss your chance to be part of music history! Grab your tickets before they are gone.

“GRRR!”, the latest from the Rolling Stones featuring two new songs titled “Doom and Gloom” and “One More Shot” is available now on iTunes.

Legendary English 80’s band, Depeche Mode, have kicked off the week with the announcement of a FREE show this Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA. The ONLY way in to this tiny, tiny show is to win tickets from Los Angeles radio station, the world-famous KROQ 106.7. Depeche Mode will be playing to an audience of just 400 people, the most smallest show they have ever played in Los Angeles. This will be their surprise warm up show before they launch their world tour on May 4th in France. Don’t fret (well not too much anyway) if you don’t win tickets to see them this week because they will return to Los Angeles at the end of September for three shows at the Staples Center. A full list of tour dates can be found on the Depeche Mode site. Their latest album, “Delta Machine” is out on iTunes now.

Sir Paul McCartney is also in Los Angeles rehearsing for his “Out There” tour which also kicks off May 4th in South America before heading to North America for a tour along with a handful of scheduled European dates. Stop by his site for more information.

The 2013 concert season is shaping up to be a hell of a good ride with so many rock legends hitting the road this year. Now if we could just get our hands on the winning lotto numbers so we could check out all of these amazing artists touring this year we’d be set. Check back as Life On The Scene hopes to bring you coverage of some of these great shows this year!

Who are you most excited to see this year on the concert trail? Let us know in the comments below. We’d love to hear from you.

Bruno Mars Releases “When I Was Your Man”

Crooner Bruno Mars has released the second single and video from his sophomore effort, Unorthodox Jukebox, available now on iTunes, a ballad entitled “When I Was Your Man”. The video is a back to basics, simplistic style featuring the singer performing the song at a piano.

The first song from the album, “Locked Out of Heaven” has ruled the charts for the past several weeks. Will the 2nd single follow suit?

The Hawaiian born singer has been globetrotting making promotional appearances for the Unorthodox Jukebox but the singer has yet to announce a full-scale world tour in support of his latest offering.

He is currently scheduled to perform at Reliant Arena as part of the Houston Rodeo in March, rumored to also be performing at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX and has an April date scheduled in Dubai (marking the singers first trip to perform in the middle east).

When is he going to release those tour dates? It’s sure to be one of the hottest summer tickets around so let’s get this show on the road Bruno!

Mars will join iconic Police singer Sting and Rihanna at the Grammy Awards this Sunday night for a live performance during the show.

The Grammy Awards will be broadcast on CBS, beginning at 8PM ET on Sunday (Feb. 10).

A unique, very David Bowie video accompanies the haunting track which takes you on a journey revisiting the past while asking where are we now with the tender melodic you know you know you know. His website speaks of much more to come in the near future. Do we dare dream the impossible? Will David Bowie emerge to support this album? Could this be the year Coachella gets one of its dream headlining acts? OK, so hell could freeze over and I would voluntarily attend a hot, sweaty music festival in the middle of the California desert that I’ve avoided like the plague for all of its entirety.

A few scattered tour dates perhaps in major cities around the globe? Outdoor summer concert series in the warmer climates? My bag is packed, I’m ready, let’s dance!

We all know that Bowie only comes out to play when he’s got something to say. I’m always ready to listen and look forward to exploring the rest of the tracks on this most unexpected and extremely welcome belated Christmas present.

Wishing you all a Bowie filled 2013!

Soundgarden Fans Rejoice

by Jade Robledo

Soundgarden fans rejoice!

The first recording from the rock band in 15 years has now been made available as a free download on iTunes.  “Live to Rise” is the first single to be released from the upcoming soundtrack to MARVEL’s the Avengers, which will be titled Avengers Assemble and scheduled to be released on May 1st via Hollywood Records.  Also available as part of the free download of the single is an exclusive clip from the film due May 4th.

The band is known for being a seminal band of the Seattle / “grunge” era of rock in the early 90s.  Their greatest success came with the release of their album Superunknown, which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard charts in 1994.  The release featured “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman,” both of which won Grammys for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance in 1995 respectively.

In 1997 Soundgarden broke up due to creative differences.  Lead singer Chris Cornell recorded three solo albums, Euphoria Morning, Carry On, and Scream.  Cornell also recorded three albums with Audioslave, which also featured then-former Rage Against the Machine band members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk.  Known for the singles “Cochise,” “Like a Stone” and “Show Me How to Live,” Audioslave also cited creative differences when they broke up in 2007.

Guitarist Kim Thayil played on tracks for Steve Fisk and Dave Grohl’s side-project Probot.  Ben Shepherd played bass on releases by Tony Iommi and Mark Lanegan.

Matt Cameron continued to drum in his side-project Wellwater Conspiracy that he began in 1993, a project that included a 1997 release featuring lead vocals by Ben Shepherd.  He also contributed drums on “For Martha” on the Smashing Pumpkins’ 1998 album Adore before accepting the invitation from Pearl Jam to fill in for Jack Irons on their US tour.  He has since joined the band as an official member.

In 2010 the band announced via Twitter that they were reuniting for live shows.  In 2011 Cornell confirmed that they would be heading into the studio to record a new album.  “Live to Rise” marks the first release since the reformation.

Soundgarden will hit the road in late May to join the European summer festival circuit including Donington’s Download Festival in June. Additional tour dates and more information can be found on Soundgarden’s web site.
